- Date: 25/October/2019
- Purpose: Class observations
- Place: Kameru Primary School
- Target: Primary school teacher
Grade3, Mathematics, Topic: shape
The teacher repeatedly read out loud the names of the different shapes, which was very good for the students. Then she asked the number of balls and cones that were on the page in the textbook. The students tried to answer but they ended up just copying from the chalkboard. I also suggested that you print out and distribute the worksheet amongst each other as drawing the shapes for them would be difficult and time-consuming.
Ms. Fukushima (Japanese Volunteer) lesson
Grade 5, Natural science, Topic: Human body
Before each lesson, she started with greetings as this helps create order and discipline in the classroom. I heard in the last lesson she showed the students a video of the various diseases.
She also taught the students by using body language in which the students imitated. The students enjoyed this part of the lesson. She made posters as visual aids for the students which proved to be quite helpful to them.
she went on to create a worksheet drawing the illustrations that would focus on helping the students remember.
The school has limited resources in terms of the desk and chair. Furthermore, this lack of furniture caused some students to find it hard to concentrate on. lastly, some of the students did not have pencils and pens which makes it difficult to conduct classes.
Grade 6
Mathematics, Topic: Movement
Firstly, she explained the concept of rows and columns by using a poster grid that could fold and cover the number of columns. By doing so, they would understand easily horizontal line is rows and vertical line is columns. She created a worksheet and walked around and checked on her students while they were trying to solve the problem.
